Description
Pilanesberg National Park is situated on the eroded remains of an extinct alkaline volcanic crater – one of only three in the world. The Park consists of numerous hills, wooded ravines and grassed open plains, making the area very picturesque. A wide diversity of eco-types makes a beautiful home for more than 35 species of large mammals, the sought-after ",Big Five", and more than 300 bird species.
The Pilanesberg National Park is home to Golden Leopard Resorts, a convenient 2 hours drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria and the ever-popular Sun City only 20 minutes away. Both Manyane and Bakgatla Resorts offer the keen outdoor enthusiast superb accommodation in Chalets and Tents or well equipped Caravanning and Camping facilities.
Nestled in the North West Province, this area was proclaimed as a National Park in 1979, covering an area of 55 000ha. It has been restocked with most of the species that inhabited the area in the late eighteenth century including the majestic ",Big Five",. One of the most advantageous aspects of Pilanesberg is that it is situated within a malaria- free belt.
Bakgatla offers relaxation and much more for the outdoor enthusiast, such as self, or conducted game drives, bird watching and exciting excursions in and around the Pilanesberg National Park.
All sites are grassed and electrified (utility outlets 15amp) and can accommodate a maximum of 6 people and 2 motor vehicles per site.
