KougaBerg Kraal is located on 1500Ha of rugged kloofs and valleys in the Kouga Mountains and borders the southern aspect of the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. Visitors to the farm can hike along the various trails in indigenous riverine vegetation or amongst the mountain fynbos. Other activities include horse riding, mountain biking, birding and star gazing. Bird species occuring in the area include the Knysna Lourie and Gymnogene and there are several species of small buck on the farm, such as Klipspringer, Bushbuck and Mountain Rheedbuck.
Our ethos on KougaBerg Kraal is to restore the land to its ‘natural, state and rehabilitate damaged lands, using sustainable permaculture farming principles. The majority of materials used in creating the campsite were either recycled or found on the farm itself and the braai firewood consists of alien vegetation cleared on site.
The campsite consists of a basic and rustic ablution shed with flush toilet and a hot shower, a beautiful old Wild Olive tree under which to camp and braai facilities. We guarantee privacy and peace by allowing only one set of visitors at a time – so you have the place to yourselves!
The cost to camp is R65 per person per night. This price includes unlimited firewood. Although the water is adequate for bathing, guests are asked to bring their own drinking water. Guests are asked to separate their waste (bottles/cans/cardboard), which we will deposit at the recycling depot in St Francis Bay.
The dirt road to our farm is unfortunately in poor condition and although a 4×4 is not necessary, low clearance vehicles are not recommended.
We hope that you enjoy your stay with us!
