Description

Old Mill Drift is a 1 646 acre historic guest and Warmblood horse stud farm with pet-friendly, self-catering accommodation on the Caledon River. Located 27km from Clarens and Fouriesburg in the Free State, South Africa, often referred to as “a hidden gem” by our guests, this magical setting with stark seasonal contrasts and equally magnetic landscape provides the ultimate exhilaration for extreme sport enthusiasts and yet a peaceful solace for those who just want escape in this deeply tranquil space.

Set on 14km of the Caledon river, the natural border between South Africa and Lesotho and nestled at the foot of the Maluti Mountains, this stark, bountiful and exquisite land is an idyllic place to simply chill on your stoep, hike with your dog, go biking, or cruise in your 4×4.

The farm, comprised of 14 buildings, offers multiple self-catering accommodation options that include thatch and character sandstone cottages, chalets with pet enclosures, a honeymoon suite, lodges and large dormitory style accommodation. Suited to a loner seeking refuge, couples searching for a unique romantic getaway or large family group and sporting club.

The more rustic options include campsites with ablutions, wooden cabins, backpacker AKA Student Diggs and Stone Lodge, an ideal launch pad for weekend warriors who want strenuous daytime adventures to end with a hot shower and a comfy bed to rest weary bones.

Our functions and event hire facilities include the Old Mill, a historic building which houses the 1905 Old Mill includes a bar with fireplace, kitchen and an oversized lookout deck, the Wool Sorting Shed which is utilized as a chapel, functions or food hall and the Conference Centre with breakaway rooms, and ample restrooms.

Buildings are situated within walking distance from each other so groups stay in close proximity, yet far enough away to offer privacy for solo travelers.
